The new Whole Foods Market office complex in Downtown Austin has progressed rapidly since breaking ground in late 2020. Developed by Endeavor Real Estate Group and designed by Gensler, the project occupies the corner of Bowie and West Fifth streets.

The design approach created an urban corporate campus rather than a standalone office building. The five-story, 145,150-square-foot structure connects to the adjacent Shoal Creek Walk building via an overhead walkway and includes pedestrian access along Shoal Creek itself.

The building draws inspiration from its natural surroundings. Architects incorporated gray brick, glass, and undulating aluminum fascia with wood-like soffits to create textural variety. A terraced pedestrian entrance and patinated copper signage mark the ground level. The second floor features a plant-filled terrace overlooking Shoal Creek.

Gensler addressed multiple constraints, including Capitol view corridor restrictions, below-grade and above-grade parking garages, flood plain status, and creek access requirements.

The interior continues the natural theme with decorative, handmade, terra cotta partitions in the lobby that filter light. When illuminated at night, the building creates a warm glow effect.

The complex includes a seven-level parking garage with fitness facilities and yoga studio. DPR Construction serves as general contractor, with an estimated completion date of spring 2022.
