Whole Foods Market is expanding its corporate presence downtown with a new office development called the Whole Foods Market East Block. The project will add a five-story office building and seven-level parking structure to the existing Shoal Creek Walk complex at 835 West Sixth Street.

The expansion will provide 143,800 square feet of office space and 127,104 square feet of garage parking. The development is being created by Endeavor Real Estate Group on behalf of Amazon-owned Whole Foods, with architectural designs from Gensler Austin.

The new building features curved forms and distinctive exterior soffits clad in natural materials like wood or weathering steel. It will complete the Shoal Creek Walk property that was originally designed with a future phase in mind. A previously mysterious "skybridge to nowhere" connecting the Whole Foods building across Bowie Street will finally connect to the new structure.

The project fills remaining space around the existing tower and addresses what some readers described as a "moonscape"—a large concrete area sitting atop a subterranean parking garage.

Additional firms involved include Bay & Associates, Brockette Davis Drake, DPR Construction, and TBG Partners. Construction documents indicated a potential completion date by the end of 2021.
