White Lodging held a groundbreaking ceremony on January 30 for the 613-room Austin Marriott Downtown, located adjacent to the Austin Convention Center. The 31-story hotel, positioned at the corner of Cesar Chavez and San Jacinto, is scheduled to open in summer 2020.
The property will feature 64,000 square feet of meeting and entertainment space, including three bars and a full-service restaurant. Notable amenities include a seventh-floor pool deck with private cabanas and fire pits, a 257-space underground parking garage, and an exhibit hall with floor-to-ceiling windows along a 170-foot glass wall.
According to Deno Yiankes, President and CEO of Investments and Development: "This project will complement the existing JW Marriott Austin" and create opportunities for large conventions. Together, both properties will provide over 1,600 rooms and nearly 180,000 square feet of meeting space within two blocks of the convention center.
